Seeing Orange

Northern Irish Artists’ Use of Orange Imagery
Millennium Court Arts Centre
6-30 July 2005

This exhibition will present contemporary Northern Irish artists who utilise Orange imagery in their work. For hundreds of years artists have responded to their surroundings, particularly the political and cultural landscape.

For decades in Northern Ireland artists have responded to the imagery of the Orange Order and their accompanied activities. But the use of this imagery in contemporary art underlines how invested visual manifestations of ‘Orange’ culture are in our everyday lives and landscape.

Exhibiting artists include Victor Sloan, Rita Duffy, Paul Seawright, Dermot Seymour, Colin McGookin, Richard Farquhar, and Chris Barr. The artists selected for this exhibition look at a section of Northern Irish society in both an individual and general way, commenting on the visual socio-political situation.
